CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

Days since his courtroom victory Khalil finally had a break in his case load. He thought it was time to keep his promise of connection with London to discuss their relationship or lack thereof. Pulling a device from his pants pocket, he opened the screen and dialed her number.

“Hey, Khalil,” London answered, her courtesy sounding restrained. “How are you?”

“I’m doing good,” he responded, his tone was pleasant, but not flirty. The time for that was done. “How about you? How have you been?”

London paused as if she were trying to be strategic with her answer. “I’m well,” she whispered, her voice deep switching to deep and sultry. “I’ve been looking forward to speaking with you. Congratulations on your case. I hear you did an amazing job.”

“Thank you.” Khalil cleared his throat as to not laugh at the way London expressed her desire for him through her tone. “Every one at the HUB put in hours of hard work as a team, and we won. It’s our biggest case yet.”

“I knew you were going to win,” London said though she didn’t sound elated, more resigned if anything. “You’re an awesome attorney.”

Khalil scanned the office that was now devoid of any photos of him and London. “Are you free this evening to have dinner? We still need to talk.”

“I can always make time for you, Mr. Benson”, she said and he was almost hard pressed to remember how she had come to his job and showed her entire ass. “Where and what time?”

“How about Provaré? We haven’t been there in a while. I’ll meet you there at seven.”
